...haven't updated since October last year! I'm doing the Inktober/Drawlloween challenge again this year...
Welcome to my art blog
A self-taught artist, I have always been drawn towards the macabre. Born a twin on Christmas Eve 1964 in Montreal, my twin died several months after birth. This became a large influence in my creative process; isolation, detachment, duality, haunted visions coming from this astral being that I am forever tethered to.Art has always been my way to process and filter what I come across, what I am subjected to, or what I subject myself to each day; a way for me to exorcise the demons on my shoulder. The paintings are empathic, often inspired by the individual’s strength in the face of their own weakness. The common thread in all of my works is survival of self.If a viewer is made uncomfortable by my work, then I have done my job as an artist. I have touched something within them that they are not comfortable with. I want to elicit a visceral response but maintain a sense of the absurd, creating works that are both intensely horrifically personal and humourous.
I am inspired by artists that have celebrated the grotesque: Hieronymus Bosch, Joe Coleman, Otto Dix and George Grosz.
This blog is a progression of my work, works in progress, random thoughts etc. You can join me on Facebook or view a gallery of my work on Flickr at:

Inktober - Day 12
I do like the creepy stuff and this time of the year is perfect for me to indulge my love of the macabre and disturbing.
You can also follow my progress during INKtober on Twitter/Instagram @aboyandhiscats, on Facebook @grantcunningham via my blog, or my Deviant ART profile
Inktober - Day 10
This concept came about as I had friends over for dinner on Friday night after a full day of work - no time to do my sketch that day. I had originally intended to have a figure carving a human leg with a knife and fork at a set table = friends for dinner.
Time escape me and too much wine left me a very limited amount of time... so here's a drunken close to midnight sketch for that evening.
Inktober - Day 8
Usually the day after doing a quick sketch for this challenge, I come back with the big guns. One of my favourites so far in my Inktober series.
Inktober - Day 7
...one of those days where I didn't feel like drawing but am committed to this 31 day challenge. Trying to wrap my head around the fact that each work for Inktober does not have to be perfect. Expect a few 5 minute sketches on those days where it's a chore.

Montreal in January
One Saturday night when it was -40c and I decided to stay home with kitties and a bottle of wine, I looked out my window and saw someone decked out in stylin' Montreal wear, doing her patented Tyra stomp down blustery DeMaisonneuve. This is what came of it.
